DIY: Magazine Holder

JM Perez By JM Perez1 min read314 views

This year I have enjoyed some of the free items from some of my favorite companies. Some items I have signed up for myself and others I have received at no cost to me, like the Latina Magazine, a subscription given to me by a good Samaritan (thank you, whoever you are).

Materials Needed:

  • Handwoven Gift Basket
  • Spray Paint
  • Choice Fabric for Bow (hand tie a bow or use a glue gun)
  • Glue gun
  • Hot glue sticks
Magazine Holder.

Clean your Handwoven Gift Basket, spray paint it, hot glue or just hand tie a bow and you have a beautiful, eye-catching Holder to store your favorite Books, Magazines or whatever you wish.

“Garden Shed & Co.” Shop

While going to visit one of our local Antique shops, we realized that there was a difference in the building. The normal entrance was closed and the annex was the new entrance. As we walked up to it we noticed that the sign of the business had changed as well. The feel of the new setup and the quality of the antiques, as well as their diversity was surprising to say the least. After our initial visit we knew that we had to go back and check it out again, since every time we visit antique shops we find and notice items we had missed before.

The shop carries beautiful and unique Antique furniture, some of which are 100 years old (such as a matching Victorian Desk and Chair as well as a huge American Flag with 48 stars). You will also find furniture from the 1800 (such as a Cigar Counter). The shop also carries stunning Shabby Chic furniture such as arm chairs, benches, chandeliers, mirrors, picture frames, candle holders. There’s so much to see at the Garden Shed & Co.

Bobbie, the store owner is cheerful and always available for questions and to help.

After a rather cold week, yesterday was bright and warm. We decided to drive down to Downtown Pomona, CA, one of our favorite places in Southern California. Our first stop was at Ken’s Olden Oddities, a little Antique Shop in the city of La Verne, CA, where we purchased this gorgeous Vintage Mosaic Candle Holder from the 1960’s; a Little Girl & Cat Statue from the 1970’s as well as a set of Vintage Ridgid Wrench.

“Vintage Gypsies” Shop

I get so excited every time I find a new Vintage Store and get to buy something from the past. Sometimes it’s not about the buying, but seeing all the beautiful furniture. That was exactly the case this Saturday.

After a quick stop at the post office to mail some gifts to my niece and goddaughter; we decided to take a drive to Apple Valley, CA in hopes of locating a Church. We found the Church and walked around the premises; however, we didn’t get the information we were seeking as the office is closed on the weekends.

On our way back I spotted a sign which said VINTAGE GYPSIES and we all agreed to stop by the shop and take a look. The shop is located in the Historic Roy Rogers Apple Valley Inn complex and the view is breathtaking. For those like me who are new to the area; we can only be amazed by its beauty and try to recreate, in our minds, the paradise this land once was. It is literally breathtaking.

The shop carries beautiful vintage furniture and gifts. You will find antique jewelry, restored furniture, books, some clothing, lamps, paintings, housewares, kitchenware, cameras, tools, some collectors’ cars in original packaging, bird cages, mirrors and so much more. Beckie, the shop owner is so friendly and always ready to help.

This is a place that has beautiful items that are worth seeing and buying. I will definitely be going back.

The second joyful part of our day was visiting the Smoketree Junction Antique Stores in Pinon Hills, CA (also referred to us by Angie). It’s a beautiful and friendly place to shop for antiques, shabby chic, garden as well as upcycling furniture.

I found this gorgeous antique Ladies Vintage Dress Form Bust “Gleneagles 1900′s Lady Golf Tournament” still in its original condition (from my extensive research on the Internet). If this beauty was made in 1900 then it’s 112 years old. How cool is this? My husband on the other hand found a vintage red glass oil lamp, which was converted to an electric lamp. He will post pictures and tell you all about it himself in due time. Don’t hesitate to stop by when you’re in town.

A few years ago, we found a Vintage Horse Grooming Curry Comb Brush (from the 1950’s) in the basement of our storage shed. Back then, we had no idea as of what it was except that it was really old, until this afternoon at the antique store when we spotted a similar tool and inquired about it. This is just one of the many finds we unveiled around our home.
