Downtown Pomona Finds

After picking up my Son from school this afternoon, we drove straight to Downtown Pomona, which is one of our favorite places to shop for Vintage and Antique pieces. After shopping and prior to leaving, my kids asked to play around the water fountains. We spent more time around the Mosaic Goddess and while they were busy running around, I admired the great work of art of Millard Sheets. You can read about the painter here.

Like with any other visit, we started by visiting one of our favorite shops, the Pomona Antique Mart. My children love this shop because of its three levels and going up and down on the stairs is always a thrill for them and a chore for us. We left the shop with two items we found at the basement. The first item is a Shabby Chic/Cottage Chic Stool with Wrought Iron Legs and the second is a Gulf Shrimp Nautical Sign.

I love the beautiful little stool. I will reupholster in new fabric down the road once I find one that I like.

Sadly for us, Cheryl’s Antiques was closed for the day along with a few other shops. We visited Olde Towne Pomona Antique Mall, where my husband bought a few Vintage Micro Machines and a Vintage Wooden Suitcase with Plastic Handle (possibly a tool box or a filer).

Vintage Crystal 3 Tiered Server

Since school is over and having promised our Son that we would do something fun last weekend, we took a drive to Downtown Pomona.  My kids were all smiles when I told them that we were going Vintage and Antique shopping. They love Downtown Pomona and they enjoy visiting the little shops.

We started by visiting one of our favorite shops, the Pomona Antique Mart. With it’s three levels, we always make sure to spend at least an hour to an hour and a half there. Yesterday, while at the basement level, I found a gorgeous Vintage Crystal 3 Tiered Server. I have been wanting to buy one, and this find is better than any I have seen so far. The crystal plates have Fleur de Lis, stars, and an unknown symbol as its pattern.

It is a beautiful piece, which will make a lovely centerpiece for serving an assortment of delicacies such as cupcakes, fruits, cookies, caviar appetizers, cheese, chocolates, candies, Devils on Horseback and so much more. The Vintage Crystal 3 Tiered Server could also be used to display my precious little collectibles.

A Few Vintage Finds

As a promise to our Son, we drove to Downtown Pomona this afternoon to check out the shops.
We went early to give ourselves plenty of time to go around each individual aisle. We started at the Olde Towne Pomona Antique Mall, where I ended up buying a vintage 1978 Carol Rardon figurine (made of plaster).

We then proceeded to the Pomona Antique Mart, where I picked up a huge and stunning Copper Wall Shelf Sconce before heading to Cheryl’s Antiques.

At Cheryl’s Antiques I bought a vintage 1950’s Roldan Doll (dressed as a Flamenco dancer). She originates from and was produced in Barcelona, Spain from the 1950’s to early 1970’s as touristy souvenirs and she is available in fun variety of designs. She has a gorgeous ruffle dress, a beautiful and remarkable facial features and holds felt castanets in her hands with a few pom poms hanging down. She’s gorgeous and my daughter thinks so too.

I also bought an Italian Wall Plaque of the blessed Mary and Baby Jesus (possibly a Fontanini). It’s weird because I touched this piece last December while we were piking up a few items at Cheryl’s and placed it right back where I found it, as I got distracted by my daughter. It was at home that I realized that I didn’t purchase it. I was amazed to find it today, on the exact spot where I left it almost two months ago and I immediately grabbed it.
It’s such a beautiful vintage piece of Madonna and her beloved Child.

Cheryl carries a few Boudoir Dolls in very good condition with their original clothing and accessories. If you are interested in purchasing these dolls or know someone who will, please contact Cheryl for pricing information.

Prior to returning home, we made a last stop at Ikea to purchase some Chocolate, which is available in Dark, Milk, and Hazelnut and are 99¢ each or 3 for $2.49. Ikea® Food Chocolate bars are pretty much my next favorites after Godiva® and Ghirardelli®. We all enjoy them here at home as well as sharing them with Family and Friends.

Pomona, Sweet Pomona!

While touring the three stories of the Pomona Antique Mart, I found a lovely vintage statue for my garden! How wonderful. It’s a Little girl gardening with a duck (they are both looking at their empty planter). I am thinking about painting it; then again, I might just leave it as is. I guess, time will tell. I am looking forward to displaying it for Spring, along side the Gnomes collection, when my beautiful garden will be in full bloom.

Prior to leaving, we visited Cheryl’s Antiques, which is one of the shops across the street from Pomona Antique Mart. We’ve been there once or twice before, without giving it much attention as it was always closing time or we were in a rush rush situation. Today, fortunately for us, we had a little time to spare and we used it wisely.

I found a very old and rare vintage Christmas Tree Hugger amidst a pile of vintage Christmas decorations. As much as I love the vintage Christmas Pixie Elf Knee Hugger (and held back the urge to buy one); I am grateful that my patience paid off and I found something even more special. This particular Tree Hugger made my day.

My boys, on the other hand, were more interested in Micro Machines and found a couple that caught their eyes.

DIY: Fireplace Mantel

EPEngineer By EPEngineer2 min read3.1K views

Once upon a time, our old house was equipped with a gas fireplace (possibly double sided). Somewhere along the way, one owner decided that a Wall Heater would serve the needs of his family best. So, he removed the fireplace and replaced it with a wall heater and added a second wall heater in the hallway.

Now, as the owners of this house, we have decided to remove the wall heaters and add an electric fireplace (restoring what used to be). Early this year we purchased a Wall Mount Electric Fireplace and we decided to build a Mantel around it. So, after much procrastination, we decided to buy the necessary supplies to start building. That was on Friday. Yesterday, I started cutting and putting the pieces together. Today, I filled in the holes and cracks with plaster and sanded it down in preparation for painting. They are still a couple more minor things to do before it’s finished; however, you can see what it will look like from the picture below.

The White Vintage Wall Scone was purchased a couple of months ago in Downtown Pomona, at the Pomona Antique Mart. The Raw Maple Corbel was from Lowe’s. Though we love each pair of sconce equally, the Vintage Sconce stood out the most and complimented the Fireplace beautifully.
